‘The Sea of Tranquillity’ by Mark Haddon is a beautiful Tory about a little boy who wants to go to space. He is inspired by watching the Lunar Landing in 1969. The children did a lot of research about the landing and how to construct a newspaper report.
Having studied the Pope’s message in his encyclical, Fratelli Tutti, year 5 read the story of ‘The Invisible’ by Tom Percival. This book is the story of a little girl who becomes ‘invisible’ to society through poverty. She meets other ‘invisibles’ such as a homeless man, a refugee and an elderly lady amongst others. She manages to make them vibrant through her interaction with them and carrying our commmunity projects. The children are planning a biography on their chosen invisible character. Prior to this, they worked in small groups to think about their character’s back story.
