English

At St Cuthbert's we aim to develop pupils’ abilities within an integrated programme of Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. During our daily English lessons we follow the Pie Corbett 'Talk4Writing' approach, this 'enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally before reading and analysing it and then writing their own version' (Pie Corbett Talk4Writing).

In EYFS and Key Stage 1, we also teach skilled word reading throughout, using the "Read Write Inc" phonics programme.

At St Cuthbert's pupils will be given opportunities to interrelate the requirements of English within a broad and balanced approach to the teaching of English across the curriculum, with opportunities to consolidate and reinforce taught literacy skills.

At St Cuthbert’s we strive for children to be a ‘Primary Literate Pupil’
