St Cuthbert's Catholic

Primary School

Maths

At St Cuthbert’s we aim to challenge our children into becoming enquiring and confident mathematicians. We encourage our children to build upon skills to enable them to become confident, articulate problem solvers who can reason and find solutions to real-life, everyday problems. Our lessons aim to provide children with the tools needed in order to apply their knowledge and fluency skills to a range of problems. Our children are given opportunities to revisit, recall and apply Maths skills to other areas of the curriculum, enabling them to make connections and apply these to a range of different contexts. Our aim is to bring a purpose to Maths learning through engaging, hands-on activities to support them in independent thinking and become resilient when faced with problems.
