British Values

At St. Cuthbert's the British Values are taught through a well planned out RSE and Citizenship curriculum.
According to guidance from the DfE, the fundamental British values which schools should promote are:
- Democracy;
- The rule of law;
- Individual liberty;
- Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
At St Cuthbert's we use a range of teaching resources so that we can help children to have a better understanding of the above values.
We aim to ensure that all pupils within the school and have a voice that is listened to. This is demonstrated through our Pupil Parliament.
At St Cuthbert's we promote British values:
- By teachers explaining the meaning of the value;
- By pupils reflecting on the value and what it means to them and their own behaviour;
- By pupils using the value to guide their own actions;
- By staff modelling the value through their own behaviour;
- By ensuring that values are taught implicitly through every aspect of the curriculum;
- Through the work of the Pupil Parliament.
- Through newsletters which explain how school and home can work together to promote positive values.
