Mental Health & Wellbeing
At St Cuthbert's we share a common goal to ensure that all our children thrive throughout their years at our school. Relationships and restorative practices, which demonstrate the importance of building strong relationships, maintaining and repairing them to ensure the well-being of all our pupils play a big part in this.
We want to make sure that children feel safe and ready to learn the moment they come to school. Children need to know that they are being heard and seen and we greet all children every morning on the gate and at classroom doors. We value every interaction with our children. This helps us to ensure that children’s emotional needs are met before any learning takes place.
We encourage all our children to talk about their feelings and ensure they know how they can seek support.
At St Cuthbert's we have a member of staff qualified in 'Drawing for Talking' as well as a qualified ELSA; both deliver either personal or group sessions to our children. We believe that good mental health and support for well being is essential for effective learning to take place.
We recognise that there is a growing need for welfare and pastoral support among our children and families. We work closely with outreach services and external providers within the Xavier Catholic Education Trust and local authority to help us provide the best possible care for our children.
If you have any concerns about your child(ren) or family, please speak to your child’s class teacher, Mrs Clarke (Senco) or Mrs Rainbow, our Mental Health Lead.
