Year 3

Home Learning

Home learning in Year 3 is set every Wednesday and should be returned by Monday, either in school or uploaded online.

Each week, home learning will alternate between English and Maths, alongside weekly spelling practice. Children will also complete a project‑based task across the term to support their wider curriculum learning in other subjects.

Children are encouraged to read at home three times each week, helping to strengthen their fluency and comprehension. To support fluency and confidence in multiplication, we strongly encourage children to use Times Tables Rock Stars regularly at home.

Regular home learning helps reinforce classroom learning and builds independence, confidence and good study habits.

Enrichment

Throughout the year, Year 3 pupils enjoy a rich programme of enrichment experiences designed to bring learning to life and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Autumn Term

Children take part in an exciting Stone Age workshop, where they dress up as people from the prehistoric period and immerse themselves in a full day of hands‑on activities. This experience helps them step back in time and connect meaningfully with their History learning.

Spring Term

Pupils visit the Eton College Museums, where they take part in workshops and group activities led by knowledgeable Eton College staff. The day is further enriched by Eton College pupils who volunteer to support and guide the Year 3 children, creating a memorable and inspiring learning experience.

Summer Term

Children take part in immersive encounters with people of different worldviews, meeting visitors from Judaism and Islam. These sessions help pupils develop understanding, respect and curiosity about different faiths and cultures.

Additional Enrichment: Feet First Training

As part of our commitment to developing safe and confident young pedestrians, Surrey County Council delivers a Feet First training programme for Year 3 pupils. This practical session teaches children how to navigate roads safely, make sensible decisions as pedestrians and develop awareness of their surroundings when walking in the community.
