Year 6
Home Learning
Home Learning is published on Seesaw on a Wednesday and should be handed in the following Monday morning. Year 6 children are expected to read for at least 20 minutes, 3 times a week. Maths and English homework is given every week along with Spellings. Children are also expected to complete either RE, Science or Foundation subject homework every week. In the second half of the Summer Term Year 6 homework moves on to Microsoft Teams in preparation for their transition to Secondary school.
Enrichment
Throughout Year 6, pupils benefit from a rich programme of enrichment activities that enhance and extend their classroom learning. In the Autumn term, children take part in a residential visit, developing independence, teamwork and resilience, and represent the school in the local community by participating in Remembrance Day commemorations in November. During the Spring term, learning is brought to life through a hands-on Greek workshop linked to their History learning, alongside Geography fieldwork conducted in and around Englefield Green. In the Summer term, pupils deepen their understanding of local history by attending a workshop and visit the Englefield Green Cemetery exploring the impact of war on Englefield Green. During year 6, children are invited to do their Bikeability training.
SATS
Year 6 children do their SATS tests in May. Preparation for the tests is done during lesson time.
Residential
Year 6 children go to the PGL centre at Windmill Hill in the first half of the Autumn term. Here they take part in a range of exciting (and sometimes challenging) activities. This gives the children an opportunity to bond as a class, build resilience and become more responsible and independent.
