St Cuthbert's Catholic

Primary School

RSHE and Citizenship

At St. Cuthbert’s we teach Relationships, Sex and Health Education and Citizenship within the context of a Christian understanding of human sexuality rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Catholic Church.

We are embracing “the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life” by giving children knowledge “that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships” from school age to adulthood. We use the Diocesan approved Ten Ten Life to the Full programme and Journey in Love – from Reception to Year Six. Lessons are taught with a ‘spiral’ approach to learning, in which children will revisit the same topics at an age-appropriate stage through their school life. The entire teaching is underpinned with a religious understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen, and loved by God. It is fully inclusive of all pupils and their families.

To enhance our citizenship learning we use Twinkl Life resources to cover:

  • Money management

  • British Value

  • Growth Mindset

  • Digital Wellbeing.

Overall, we aim that children at St. Cuthbert’s grow to appreciate the world around them and become stewards of God’s world taking these virtues into adult life.
