Science

On the 10th of June, the children in year 5 were very excited to witness a partial solar eclipse. This was perfect timing for our project work and science learning on Earth and Space.  After witnessing the eclipse (safely) they researched and recorded what was actually happening and the three different forms of solar eclipse. It was wonderful to witness the children’s excitement!  It was also good to view it safely through pinholes and via the shadow cast by a metal pizza tray!

Witnessing the Solar Eclipse

As part of our Earth and Space project and science learning, the children have been finding out how night and day happens on Earth and also about the geocentric and heliocentric models for our solar system.  They researched different astrological theories (Ptolemy, Copernicus. Galileo) and discovered that the Earth actually moves around the Sun.
