St Cuthbert's Catholic

Primary School

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1 Class!

Hello and welcome to the Year One section of the website. Please do come and check out the page regularly, as it is often being updated with pictures of the children's wonderful learning.

Important information:

PE is on Tuesday and Thursday this term.

PE kits should be in school from Monday to Thursday.

For PE children need trainers, St Cuthbert's PE shorts, t-shirt, tracksuit bottoms and jumper.

Home Learning

Home Learning will be sent either via Seesaw or as a hard copy with the children and may be based on our Project learning or have a SPAG or Maths focus. This will be sent home via Seesaw on a Wednesday and is expected to be completed and emailed back the following Monday. Please encourage your children to practice their phonics song of sounds regularly.

Reading Books

Reading is slightly different to normal this year and so there are no reading records to be sent in and signed. Children's books will be sent home on a Wednesday and are to be returned on a Monday morning. Please note that if your child does not return their books on Monday, it will not be changed.

In school we have lots of opportunities for independent reading. The children can choose a book from the Y1 class library to read alone or share with a friend.

We also listen to the children read daily during Guided Reading. This gives the teacher an accurate representation of how your child is getting on with their reading.

In Year one, we provide equipment for learning which includes:

  • HB pencils

  • ruler

  • pencil sharpener

  • rubber

  • red pen for editing

  • whiteboard pens

  • colouring pencils

  • glue sticks

  • scissors

However, children can bring in a pencil case to school which will stay in their own trays. Please ensure that the pencil case is not too bulky as it needs to fit in their trays. All equipment and pencil cases need to be clearly labelled.

Outdoor Learning

In year One, we spend a lot of time outside. We have an outside classroom space that we use all year round. For the children to access the outdoor learning, they need to be suitably dressed, especially during the cooler months.

And as such, we encourage a set of outdoor learning clothes to be in school all year.

 - wellies (or a second pair of trainers that can get muddy - not PE trainers)

- waterproof jacket/trousers/splash suit

- warm hat, scarf, and gloves.

Thank you for reading,
