Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 page of our website.

The following pages will give you an idea of the learning and activities taking place and will be updated on a regular basis.

The following important information gives you the necessary details of our weekly routine and other details and requirements.  Please note that there may be occasions when the weekly timetable/routine changes slightly due to special events etc.

PE

PE is on Tuesday and a Friday this term. It is the last lesson on both days and children will be dismissed wearing their PE kit.  The children therefore need to return their PE kit to school for the following week's lessons.

Home Learning

Home learning will be set on Seesaw on a Friday for submission by Wednesday. The learning will be a mixture of Maths, SPAG and project.   Please ensure that your child completes their work as it is often a consolidation of prior learning. It is important to encourage your children to regularly use Times Table Rock Stars too.

Reading Books

Reading is slightly different to normal this year and therefore there are no reading records to be sent in and signed. Children's books are sent home on a Wednesday and are to be returned on a Monday. If your child does not return the book on Monday it will unfortunately not be changed.

Children in year 5 have quiet reading sessions within the school week reading a book from our class library which is kept in school.

We also listen to the children read daily during Guided Reading. In addition, there are regular class reading sessions where we all share a novel (Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo this term). This gives the teacher an accurate representation of how your child is getting on with their reading.

Equipment

In Year Three the children all need a pencil case. This will stay in school in the children's own tray. In the pencil case needs to be;

- friction pen (blue ink) with refills

- 2 HB pencils

- short ruler

- pencil sharpener

- red pen for editing

- whiteboard pen

- colouring pencils

- glue stick

- named pencil case

- scissors

- compass

- a reusable named water bottle

All equipment needs to be clearly labelled and in school every day.

Outdoor Learning

We make the most of outdoor learning in Year 5, in all weathers. We therefore encourage a set of outdoor learning clothes to be in school all year.

- wellies (or a second pair of trainers that can get muddy - not PE trainers)

- waterproof jacket/trousers/splash suit

- warm hat, scarf and gloves.

In the event of very hot/sunny weather, children should have a sun hat and should apply sun protection cream, at home, before coming to school. Children may bring in sun cream but it must be named and they should be taught how to apply it independently. Staff in school are prohibited from applying your child’s sun protection.

Thank you for reading,
