Reading Books

Reading is slightly different in Year Six, we encourage them to read a book of their choice at least three times a week at home for a minimum of thirty minutes.

In school we make time for independent reading. The children to have their own reading book of choice, this can be a graphic novel, chapter book or non-fiction text. However, it is important that the children have opportunity to read a range of different types of books.

We also listen to the children read during Guided Reading. This gives the teacher an accurate representation of how your child is getting on with their reading.

Equipment

In Year Six the children all need a pencil case. This will stay in school in the children's locker and on their desk when they are in class.

In the pencil case needs to be;

- At least two blue writing pen

- two HB pencils

- short ruler

- pencil sharpener

- red pen for editing

- whiteboard pen

- colouring pencils

- glue stick

- named pencil case

- scissors

All equipment needs to be clearly labelled and in school every day.

Outdoor Learning

In Year Six we do a range of outdoor learning activities.

In order for the children to access the outdoor learning comfortably they need to have:

- wellies (or a second pair of trainers that can get muddy - not PE trainers)

- waterproof jacket/trousers/splash suit

- warm hat, scarf and gloves.

Thank you for reading,

Miss Thompson
